This Gulf Coast Clay Conference Workshop is a rare opportunity to spend uninterrupted time with internationally recognized ceramic artists Randy Johnston and Jan McKeachie Johnston. In this workshop Randy and Jan will be making pottery within traditional concepts, with a focus on the exchange of ideas involved in making pots related to function. Demonstrations will cover the use of the wheel and the construction of forms by altering pieces and by using slabs and paper patterns. In addition we will share our thought process as we approach the objects we choose to make.
This will be an exciting workshop with lots of discussions about the work and relationship to contemporary ceramics. In addition, we will view images of historical and contemporary work in ceramics and also a personal slide lecture of time in Japan and Randy and Jan's own studio and kilns.
